Short, but cool story. So Zelaya and I were out walking around Sija when out of nowhere some lady comes up to us and says, Hey hows it going? I responded… what did you just say to us? She says, um, how are you guys doing? I laughed, and said sorry, I understood what you said but you just freaked me out. In 8 months you are the first person who Ive ever heard - who isnt a missionary - speak in English. She laughed. Turns out her name is Tory, shes from Florida and is working here in Sija for the Peace Core. Shes been living here for the past 22 months. We had a great conversation with her and explained why we were here in Sija, what exactly it is we are doing and answered a lot of her questions. She in turn told us all about the Peace Core and shared some neat experiences with us that she has had while living here in Sija.
Turns out that she has spoken to missionaries before but didnt really have a good experience with them in the past. She has a Book of Mormon but has never read it. Mostly because it is in Spanish and she still has troubles with the language. She explained that she is Presbiterian and basically thats that, hehe, or atleast thats what she thinks. It was really neat talking to her.
At the end of the conversation Elder Zelaya explained to her that we are going to find her a copy of the Book of Mormon in English but in the meantime… just then he pulled out the book Our Search for Happiness by Elder Ballard and said to her, I have this book right here that will answer a lot of your questions, if I let you borrow this book, will you read it? She said, yes of course. Then he said, just please dont lose it cause its Elder Robertsons and I dont want him to hurt me. haha. She also accepted the invitation to have us swing by to teach her some more. All in all it was a great experience. Gringos are cool and teaching in English definetly is easier than Spanish. Ill be sure to let you all know how things progress. Hurray for missionary work!
