Here is part of a letter I recently sent home to my family:
“Guess what!! My dream came true! God answers prayers, hehe. I got transfered from my area and now I am serving in XELA!!! In a little suburb of the city called San Carlos Sija. Its in the mountains and it feels sooo nice here, like it does in Utah, nice and cool. Its really weird what happened. What the President did was he pulled BOTH the missionaries that were in this area out at the same time. Thats something that he hardly never does, he usually only transfers one so the other one can stay and show the new guy the area. Well, not in this case. They pulled both the previous missionaries out and put me in the area as senior companion and put as my companion Elder Otto Zelaya! The same Elder that went to Mountain View. He is soo cool.
My new area is huge! and like i said its kind of hilly so its going to be fun hiking these hills. supposedly it rains a LOT in this area. my new house is really nice too. really big. only problem is the elders that were living here before left it really dirty so zelaya and i are going to spend the day cleaning it. the area here doesnt have a ward, its only a small branch. they say that including us 2 there is only 4 people in the branch who are priesthood holders and they say that there are only like 25-30 members. sounds like we have a lot to work to do here in this area…”
Here is another part of a different letter I also sent home:
“Lets see here… lots of stuff to say… dont know where to start… I think I will start off telling you that I LOVE XELA. Its sooooooooooooooooooooo cold though!! I almost died the first couple of days but I think it has a lot to do with going from a place so hot to a place so cold. I got a little sick with a cold but it is nothing to cry over infact its just about gone now. My area San Carlos Sija is part of Xela but its the furthest part of Xela. To travel to Xela where we have the meetings with the other missionaries we have to take a bus. Our area Sija is so high in the mountains. There it is civilized, but there are a lot of Señoritas de Corte. Thats what I call the native americas. Because what they were is this typical dress that they call Corte, so yeh I call them Señoritas de Corte. But like I said, it is civilized. They have paved roads and stuff… its really hilly.
Oh and its soooo cold because our area is up in the clouds. Im living though, Im fine. Oh and its rained every single day Ive been here. And the water is ICE WATER! But Ive been wearing my sweater and coat and Im fine. At night I sleep with like 8 blankets like I did at home. We have a fire place in our house though so every night my comp and I start up a fire. It works out nicely. You asked if we shower with ice water… no… we hardly dont even have water. What happens is we have running water but the problem is it harldy ever runs. So we have tons of giant buckets that we leave outside because it rains every single day. So we use all those buckets to wash our dishes and also to shower. We take the rain water and then put it in this giant pot and put it on the stove and heat up our water. Then we shower using the heated up water. It works out really nice.
Unfortunetly we do not have a cook in this area but Zelaya and I are working hard on finding one hehe. In the meantime we are getting along just fine cooking for ourselves. We have also been lucky to have such great members who from time to time cook for us, they are too nice. Oh guess what. Because this is only a Branch, only like 25-30 people come to church on sunday. We only have 4 people, 2 minus us that are priesthood holders. Because of that I ended up as 2nd counsler in the presidency of the branch. Crazy huh. Zelaya and I are going to work hard trying to find guys that we can bring into the branch because they branch really needs the priesthood help…”
Lastly, new photos!!…
