Whoops… I haven´t updated in a while. I´ve been getting lazy. Sorry about that. This week I will just post a little excerpt from a letter I wrote home. Next week I´ll be sure to make a really update as well as upload a bunch of new photos.
“…All is going well here. My talk was just fine [I gave a talk in sacrament meeting on the Sabbath Day], a bunch of the members commented and told me they really liked it. The best thing about this week by far was the short talk we had over the phone. It was so good to hear your voices again. Its been a long time. Can you believe it, I now have 7 months in the mission. Time sure is flying.
You asked about my companion, hes an ok kid but we seem to not get along from time to time. The problem is I dont agree with the way he teaches. We were teaching this one kid and he basically went out and said point by point why this kids church was wrong, and explained why we were right but did it in a manner where the kid felt really uncomfortable and so did I.
I was pretty upset and at the end of the appointment the kid said, Im sorry but when I am speaking with you I feel very uncomfortable not like I do when I am in my church. I want you guys to go and not come back. And guess what my companion said? He told him, well the scriptures teach us that the wicked take the truth hard. Can you believe that? I was furious. I asked him, what is your problem? We are working with PEOPLE. You can´t just speak to people like that. How would you feel if somebody came to you that youve never met and they said your church is wrong because of this this and this and we are right and to top it all of you are wicked and you are going to hell. If it was me I would say, wow, thats really nice, then I would proceed to punch them in the face and then throw them out of my house. I explained to him that by speaking to people like that we are not just closing the doors on us but closing the doors on all the future missionaries that are going to stop by that house also. All of them are going to remember the impression we left with them and are going to judge our church by that manner. He told me, yeh but is not what I said true? And I said, yes, what you said is true but there is a way to go about TEACHING somebody instead of just flat out saying you are wicked and you need to leave your devilish church and join us. Our job as missionaries is not to conden people, we are here to INVITE people to come unto Christ. There is a big difference. Anyways, I think he got the message.
We do have a lot of investigators though that are getting really close to baptism. We have met various families also that are progressing just nicely as well. There is one family in particular that I have just learned to love and it would be sooo cool to see that whole family go under the water before I finally get transfered. That would just be the coolest thing ever, we´ll see what happens…”

Hey buddy!!!!Yeah, you finally updated your site!!! It was great to read about your experience with your companion and it´s so true. My last companion was the same way. it´s very easy to bash in the african english branch where I´m at and he would get really involved and point out why their church was wrong, etc…the same way. It´s all about inviting, the “Come and see” for yourself. they must find out for themselves. Anyways, just wanted to let you know that all is well here in Madrid and sounds like you´re having a blast!Loves,Dusty
