Good times. This week was pretty great. Alright so we have this investigator and his name is Flabio. This guy is pretty crazy. He thinks hes like so sort of prophet. Hes always telling us about his visions and how he recieves revelations for people and everything. He tells about experiences where he will just see people on the street and without knowning them prior will begin to prophesy to them about their life and future. He tells us how they always cry and thank him. Crazy stuff.
Well this week we were teaching him a lesson. We asked him some question I cant even remember what but while he was talking to us, mid sentance este cuate just stopped. He like changed his appearance, looked me straight in the eyes and began prophesying! It was crazy! He began telling me how he knews I have a deep love for the scriptures but I need to have a little more faith. He told me that he sees a great future for me and apparently I am going to hold a really high position in the church someday. He then looked at my companion and said you will always be strong in the church but will never have a position like he will have, refering to me. Then he told me that the day will come when he is a member of the church that we will meet back up and I will now be in this position in the church and he will speak to me and ask me if I remembered his prophesy. It was crazy stuff and with that he just snaped out of it. I just looked at him like, what just happened. One thing he said that was really interesting was, when I am a member of your church… as if prophesying that he will someday be a member. Who knows if this guy is for real but to any effect it leaves for a good story.
Another really weird but cool story. These two Elders in my district are teaching another guy who is pretty crazy. We have a lot of those here. This guy they are teaching apparently used to be part of a religion that practices leaving their body in spirit. Like at night while they are sleeping they can leave their body and travel. My two buddies didnt believe a word of it but they just taught the guy and invited him to church. The next week when they returned they asked him why he didnt go to church on sunday. He told them that he did go to church but on saturday. They asked, what do you mean and he explained that saturday night he went to the church but in spirit. They didnt believe it so they began to ask him questions. This guy then begain to explain every single part of the church building exactly as it is!! They thought, ok thats pretty weird but maybe this guy had just visited the church some other time. Well, in their next lesson they taught him about the temple. At the end of the lesson this guy told them, tonight I am going to go and visit your temple, refering in the spirit. And with that they left. When they returned they asked him about it. This guy told him that he went in the spirit to the temple but unfortunately he couldnt get in. My two elder buddies then asked the guy why not. And he told them because two angels were guarding the front doors. How crazy is that?? Who knows if this guy is for real, just like the other guy but like the other story, it leaves for a great story.
Anyways, the work is going forward here in sunny Retalhuleu. I love you guys a tons and I am posting new photos today. If you check out the new gallery for this month in the photo gallery located under 2006-02 (Reu) you will find some new photos. I wish you all the bestest week ever!!

Your story about the out- of-body experiences of one of the investigators is not so “crayzzzeeee.” When I was laboring in Tecpan the first time, I had a dream that I was at home in Twin Falls talking to my parents and asking my mom for a piece of the mince meat pie she had just baked. However, the mountains in my dream were not those of southern Idaho, but those near Tecpan. The dream was so vivid that I shared it with my companion. A week later when I received my weekly letter from my mom (long before the days of the internet and e-mail), she told me that she had a dream that I was at home and wanted apiece of mince meat pie she had just baked. It was written the following morning, which made it it the morning after my dream. That coincidence made shivers run up and down the spines of my companion and me.

Your experience with the man who prophesied about you also made me recall an incident which happened in Zacapa, Guatemala. One day in Relief Society (which the Elders always attended) I asked the councilor who was conducting the meeting where the president was. She replied that she was with her sister, Sister Castillo, who was sick in the hospital in a coma with a high fever. She had been that way for two days and was not responding to the efforts of the doctors or to any of the medications they were giving her. As branch president I suggested that we all go to the hospital after the meeting to see Sister Castillo. At the end of the meeting the councillor called on me to say the prayer. Of course, we prayed for Sister Castillo, then left to walk to the hospital. Naturally, the two gringo missionaries arrived in about 10 minutes. (It took the sisters 15 minutes.) When my companion and I arrived at Sister Castillo’s room, she turned over in her bed and told us, “Hace mucho calor en su tierra, Elders.” (Zacapa is hotter than Reu!) Sister Mayorga and a nurse who was still in the room told us, “You will never believe what just happened. Just 10 minutes ago her fever broke and she sat up in bed and started talking as if nothing had happened for the last two days.” We told them to ask the sisters about what had happened since some of them were just beginning to arrive, then we left. On our way back into the city, we met a little old man with a very large load of leña on his back. When he looked up and my companion and me, he put his load on the groung and then laid face down in the dust with his arms outstrechted and said, “Quiero adorar a ustedes dos angeles de Dios.” We told him that we were mortal men, just like him, but that we were truly messengers of God!. Don’t be quick to judge as “crayzzzeee” things you don’t understand at first. Remember, you working among the people of whom the Book of Mormon prophets said, “Their old men shall see visions and their young men shall dream dreams.”

Grandpa Sid– Thanks for your comments!! I loved both stories. Especially the story about your out of body experience. Ooh, that was an awesome story. Thanks for sharing it. There is actually a lot of people here who tell us about their dreams or what some would call visions. Its really amazing stuff.
