Leche de Cocha

¡¡¡¡Que Pilas!!!!! Well I made it and I am alive. I am serving in an area called Retalhuleu but everyone here just calls it Reu pronounced rrray-ooo. this keyboard is really weird so i decided that i am not going to type in caps anymore because it is too hard. anyways i love it here, spanish is coming sort of. ive already taugh a lot of lessons and made a ton of contacts, its fun.

every once in a while people will give us garbage, its funny. you get a lot of crazy catholics that have different views. we went to this one house to do a contact and this lady came to the door and my companion shouted, ¡buenas tardes hermana! and she shouted back, i am not your sister, and he just said well do you believe that god is our father, she said yes… then he was like, then we are brothers and sisters! or do you believe that he is only the father of some and not to others. it was pretty funny she couldnt really respond. thats what we like to call giving somebody the machette.

anyways, reu is pretty sweet we have everything in our area we have this big area called la trinidad which has pretty much everything there, all kinds of stores and everything. we live in the city and our appartment is across the street from a bar so they are playing music all night long, but it doesnt bother me i sleep just fine. guatemala is like one giant party every single day. everyone is always so happy.

like all missionaries we walk a lot. our area doesnt just cover the city we also walk way far and away to these areas that are like in the mountains and we have to cross rivers and stuff to get to some homes, its sooo cool. the people here are sooo nice and humble. they hardly know anything about religion so they dont ever really argue with you because they dont know how to. all they can really say is, no me interesa. oh and another thing thats pretty cool they have these little motor taxis everywhere they reminded me of the little cars off of mario kart. they are so cool, there is over 900 of them in our area, no exaggeration so you see them everywhere. we ride them from time to time or we just hitch hike. everyone gives us rides, you just jump on the back of the truck and you go, and its pretty neat because even though they are not members the people know who we are and they hardly ever charge us they are so nice.

right now we have a bunch of progressing investigators we had a lot of them come to church with us this last week so that was good. hopefully we will have a baptism soon, it looks like it can be possible. last night we got to go and watch the christmas devotional via satelite, it was sooo neat. it was so weird seeing salt lake and snow falling and thinking that is going on right now and its like a billion degrees where i am. we are on the coast so its pretty hot but im alive, i am getting acostomed to it. things are going well and i dont have a lot of time so im just going to tell one last story and then im off until next week. oh and i forgot to bring my cord so i couldnt uploaded any photos but ill post them next week.

anyways so this one night we were teaching this family about the word of wisdom and my companion was telling them what they couldnt put into their body… so he was like… no drugs, alchohal, tea… anything that is bad for your body, as well as leche de cocha… which is pig milk, i was laughing so hard i felt bad because i couldnt stop. because there are a lot of pigs here and i guess some people drink the milk and its really bad like if you drink it once it makes you permanetly crazy and you never recover from it, for reals, so when he said leche de cocha i laughed really loud because it caught me off gaurd and then it was hard to focus because thats all i could think of from then on out. it was pretty great.

the mission is sweet, really hard but its good. every night we finish my companion (elder macias) and i just collapse and die only to walk up and resurrect the next morning to do it all over again. its great. the death and the resurrection of the just is what we call it. i hope all of you are doing well! im doing great! the church is true!!!
